Ensure a traditional desktop enviroment (gnome 2/mate) is installed on RHEL/Ubuntu. e.g.

RHEL 6: Gnome 2 is installed
RHEL 7: MATE/GNOME is installed
Ubuntu: MATE is installed from the universe repository
