Ansible Role: IntelliJ

Role to download, install and configure the IntelliJ IDEA IDE https://www.jetbrains.com/idea.

While this role can install IntelliJ plugins, if you want to conditionally install particular plugins take a look at our companion role: fernandrone.intellij-plugins.

Requirements

Ansible >= 2.8
Linux Distribution
- Debian Family
  - Ubuntu
    - Bionic (18.04)
    - Focal (20.04)
- RedHat Family
  - Rocky Linux
    - 8
- macOS (Intel or M1)
- Note: other versions are likely to work but have not been tested.
Java JDK
- You need to install the JDK src as well as the JDK.
- When using Java > 9 you also need to install the jmods.
e.g. the following is required if using OpenJDK 11 with CentOS:

Warning: the feature for installing additional plugins relies on internal IntelliJ IDEA APIs and should be considered experimental at this time.

Advanced Configuration

The following role variable is dependent on the IntelliJ IDEA version; to use a IntelliJ IDEA version not pre-configured by this role you must configure the variable below:

# SHA256 sum for the redistributable package

# or ideaIU-{{ intellij_version }}.tar.gz for the Ultimate Edition

IntelliJ Plugin IDs

You can get a list of Plugin IDs, for IntelliJ Plugins that are available to install, by using the following procedure:

Download the available plugins XML

Open IntelliJ and click on:
```
File > Settings > Plugins > Browse repositories...
```
This will automatically save the available plugins XML file under:

~/<intellij user dir>/config/plugins/availables.xml.
Install XmlStarlet

Install XmlStarlet using the standard package manager for your distribution

e.g. run the following for Ubuntu:
```
sudo apt install xmlstarlet
```
Extract Plugin Names and Plugin IDs

Run the following in your terminal:
```
xmlstarlet sel -T -t -m '//idea-plugin' \
    -v 'str:align(name, str:padding(50, " "), "left")' -v '" "'  -v 'id' -n \
    $(find ~ | grep --color=never '/plugins/availables.xml$' | sort | tail -n 1)
```
This will produce a two column plain text layout with Plugin Name on the left and Plugin ID on the right; the output is suitable for use with grep.

Development & Testing

This project uses Molecule to aid in the development and testing; the role is unit tested using Testinfra and pytest.

To develop or test you'll need to have installed the following:

Linux (e.g. Ubuntu)
Docker
Python (including python-pip)
Ansible
Molecule

Because the above can be tricky to install, this project includes Molecule Wrapper. Molecule Wrapper is a shell script that installs Molecule and it's dependencies (apart from Linux) and then executes Molecule with the command you pass it.
